Still life, and flowers more specifically, hold particular fascination with many photographers and I am no exception. I am drawn to their almost mathematically perfect form, that still retains just enough random imperfections to resonate with the messiness of our own lives. Under the right conditions they glow with a light that seems to originate from within.

When I was a student at USC, I used to enjoy walking alongside Howard Jones Field and capturing the graceful beauty of the hibiscus bushes there. These were recently removed and replaced with fencing. Fortunately I have these photos as a reminder.

These beautiful and delicate little flowers were planted haphazardly in a small plot of ground in front of a busy parking garage in Pasadena, CA. To me they appeared brave and proud if fleeting.
